What grabs your attention about paleo blogs in particular? What standout characteristics keep you coming back? I'd love to put out a competent site/blog on some level, and regurgitating Wikipedia obviously isn't the right approach. The particulars of this field are mildly foreign to me, so i'm not sure what the 'right things' are to focus on. I understand a lot is left to personal preference, but maybe these blogs share common features? Are there characteristics of certain blogs that set you off right away?

Hey,
Palaeo blogs, for me, are about having a different perspective cast over a particular piece of research or aspect of Palaeo. If you want to see how it's done properly, check out Brian Switek's Laelaps blog series for National Geographic.
The coming back part is about the author being able to capture the science in an engaging manner - that's something no-one can teach you, and you just have to learn through experience. As well as this, it's good to let a bit of your personality shine through, to give a personal sheen to the writing.
My advice would be to read a few blog posts to get the feel of the writing style, and then simply start writing about what interests you - it doesn't have to be from Wikipedia or peer reviewed papers. Thee is no real right or wrong - test, learn, adapt is the best approach. You'll find what suits you best with experience.
Hope this helps a bit!
